De-Ice Air Intake System Check Engine Light
As a car lover, you know how frustrating it can be when your car won’t start in the cold and that annoying check engine light pops up. But don’t worry! I have the solution you’ve been looking for, and it’s easier than you think!
To de-ice air intake system, you can use methods such as a heat gun, a hair dryer, a can of compressed air, or an ice scraper. Follow the specific instructions for each method, whether it involves applying heat, blowing hot air, spraying compressed air, or gently scraping off the ice until it is completely melted.
Imagine being able to deice air intake system effortlessly and getting rid of that pesky check engine light. Well, today I’m going to show you exactly how I deice air intake system and reset the check engine light on my Chevy.
How does the Air Intake System Works?
Simply said, air intake systems feed gasoline from your fuel tank and air from outside the car’s air intake manifold into the engine.
What Is the Importance of De-Icing Air Intake System?
Before starting the de-icing process, it’s crucial to recognize the significance of keeping the air intake system ice-free. Ice formation in the air intake can lead to various issues. You can experience reduced car performance, potential engine damage, and intake system problems due to the ice formation in the air intake system.
How to Deice Air Intake System?
There are several effective methods for deicing the air intake system. Choose one of the following methods based on the available tools and your preference:
Method | Tools Needed |
1: Using A Heat Gun | Heat gun only |
2: Using A Hair Dryer | Hair dryer only |
3: Using A Can of Compressed Air | Compressed air can only |
4: Using an Ice Scraper | Ice scraper only |
How Did I Deice Air Intake System?
Here, I will explain how to deice air intake step by step.
Step 1: Open the Hood
I began by locating the hood release lever inside my vehicle. It was located on the left side of the driver’s footwell. Then I pressed it sideways and lifted it to pop the hood open.
Step 2: Locate the Air Filter
Next, I discovered the air filter. It was linked to a container that was fastened to a lengthy tube. Before the air entered the engine, it was filtered by the air filter.
Step 3: Unclip the Housing
To remove the housing, I did not require any equipment. I simply released the clips holding the housing for the air filter in place. I gently removed the housing’s clasp and gave it a shake with my hands to let the filter come loose.
Step 4: Remove the Air Filter
Then I observed the air filter and noted its position and orientation within the housing. I removed the air filter cautiously. I ensured that no debris fell into the housing or intake tube while removing the air filter.
Step 5: De-Ice the Air Filter
I used a hair dryer for this task.
First, I switch on the hair dryer and set it to medium heat. Then, I direct the hot air toward the ice and the surrounding area. Next, I moved the hair dryer back and forth to evenly distribute the heat. I continued until the ice had melted.
Tip: Keep an eye on the progress while de-icing the air intake system. Ensure that all the ice has melted and that there are no remaining obstructions in the intake system.
What Should I Do If I Don’t Have a Hair Dryer?
Here are 3 alternative tools for the hair dryer that you can use for deice air intake system.
Follow the specific instructions for the tool you’ve selected:
1: Heat Gun
- Set the heat gun to the maximum level.
- Direct it towards the ice in the air intake system.
- Move the heat gun slowly across the ice, allowing it to melt.
- Continue until the ice has completely melted.
2: Can of Compressed Air or Compressor
- Aim the nozzle of the compressed air can toward the ice in the air intake system.
- Spray air directly onto the ice.
- Repeat the process until the ice thaws completely.
3: Ice Scraper
- Use the ice scraper to scrape off the ice from the air intake system.
- Continue scraping until all the ice has been removed.
Step 6: Clean the Air Filter Housing
I cleaned the air filter housing using a vacuum cleaner. I made sure to remove any dirt or debris from the inside. I also made sure that the seal around the edge of the housing was clean. This was an additional task.
Step 7: Reinstall the Air Filter
I carefully followed all the above steps backward to reinstall the air filter.
Step 8: Reset the Check engine light
The final step was to reset the check engine light. I had to reset the check engine light manually because my car is slightly older. If your car is a newer one, the check engine light will be gone in a few seconds after you deice air intake system.
Note: It’s essential to perform regular maintenance to ensure the efficiency and longevity of your air intake system. Clean the air intake filter regularly and inspect it for any damage. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and consult qualified professionals when needed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):
What does deice air intake system mean?
Cleaning the ice accumulated in the air intake system to allow air to flow freely to the vehicle engine is known as deicing the air intake system.
Does a cold air intake improve throttle response?
Yes. Better throttle response and better fuel efficiency can be achieved with cold air intakes. Your engine can produce more power if it can access more air, which is a capability.
Can a cold air intake damage your engine?
If a cold air intake filter system is not installed correctly and the required maintenance is not performed, it is conceivable that it could harm your engine. If you can spot warning signs of a problem before it becomes a problem, you can reduce the risk of damage.
Can cold air intake cause check engine light?
Yes, the check engine light may turn on to alert the driver of a problem if any of the sensors fitted in the intake detect any problems.
